Did you know Smith will be carbon neutral by 2030? A large part of how we're getting there is by installing geothermal energy on campus, which will reduce our carbon emissions by 90%. Learn more about how geothermal energy works and what to expect from the construction process in this video created by students Corinna Davis '23 and Hildana Shiferaw '25.
With students returning back to school, we wanted to share an update on available and offline parking locations. The parking lot near Capen/Davis will continue to be offline through the Summer of 2023. Parking in the upper Tilly and Parsons Lots will be offline through August 2023 to support a renovation project in Parsons, separate from the Geothermal Energy Project. Parking behind Alumnae will be offline through January 2023. After the Labor Day holiday, select parking spots at Gillett, Chase, and Duckett will be temporarily impacted by excavation activities crossing Bedford Terrace. During the fall, with campus experiencing a 9% loss of on-site parking, utilization of the parking garage is a great alternative option. If there are any questions, concerns, or comments, please direct them to the project specific email address geoenergy@smith.edu
